We are already familiar with three categories of CBD oilCBD isolate; the pure form of CBD with no THC, which differentiates it from the other two types. However, Full-spectrum CBD and  Broad-spectrum CBD are quite similar to each other in that they make it hard for us to recognize which product is which?

You can find both full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products at Smilz. But before purchasing, it is essential to know the properties, benefits, and drawbacks of each category.

In this article, you can get insight into the pros and cons of both types.

Full-spectrum CBD oil and broad-spectrum CBD might possess different properties and benefits, but both of these share the same history of cultivation and extraction. For the proper extraction; the hemp plant is first grounded into biomass, then the winterizing takes place. Winterizing refers to the conversion of acidic CBD into a healthy and useful one. The ignorance of this stage can lead to the burning reaction from CBD when consumed. After winterizing the biomass, we extract the CBD oil from CBD in the following four steps:

  • CO2 Extraction: This is the fastest and safest technique to extract CBD oil. The technology used in this method is expensive but worth the results. This method involves the freezing of CO2 gas and then converting it into liquid form by applying pressure. At the liquid state, it is heated at the maximum temperature. This state is known as the supercritical state of CO2. This supercritical method ensures chemical-free extraction.
  • Steam Distillation: In this method, the hemp plant is placed in the R.B tube. The water steam enters from the inlet of the R.B tube, and when the steam passes through the plant biomass, it comes out with the oil through an outlet.
  • Solvent Extraction: This method is considered more efficient and less costly as it involves solvents instead of water. Natural solvent extraction involves essential oils such as coconut oil. This method is proved to be better than hydrocarbon extraction as it sometimes leads to cancer.
  • Lipid Extraction: Pressure and heat are applied to the biomass of the hemp plant. After some time, the compounds get absorbed in lipids such as MCT oil or vegetable oil.

Although they both have the same method of extraction, Broad spectrum CBD oil requires more purification and changes to remove THC compound from it.

Full Spectrum CBD oil and its benefits:

The hemp plant consists of a total of 104 cannabinoids, including THC and CBD. The full-spectrum CBD oils are a mixture of different hemp cannabinoids such as terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabidiol. This category also includes the THC extract which is the psychoactive part of the plant. However, the THC only covers 0.3% of the total mass of CBD oil, which means we do not experience any psychoactive reaction when consuming full-spectrum CBD.

There are the following benefits of Full Spectrum CBD:

  • It provides relief from muscle pain and stiffness.
  • It acts against epilepsy symptoms and provides aid in seizures.
  • It helps in reducing anxiety and stress symptoms.
  • It aids in many psychotic disorders.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil and its benefits:

Broad-spectrum CBD contains all active cannabinoids of the hemp plant except for one; THC. Broad-spectrum CBD fills the space between full-spectrum CBD and CBD-isolate as it includes some aspects of both categories. After the extraction process, this CBD oil faces some more refinements and processing that remove the THC compound from it without eliminating any other active compound.

The major factor that separates broad-spectrum CBD oil from full-spectrum CBD oil is the absence of THC, while other active compounds remain the same. When all the beneficial cannabinoids act in harmony to provide mental and physical aid against certain issues, it creates the entourage effect.

There are the following benefits of Broad-Spectrum CBD oil you must know:

  • It is more refined than full spectrum CBD.
  • It is the best choice for people who prefer to avoid THC but still want the other active cannabinoids in their CBD.
  • Consuming broad-spectrum CBD doesn’t cause the failure of drug tests.
  • A better option for CBD beginners who want to experience the entourage effect of all compounds except for THC.

Difference Between Full Spectrum CBD Oil and Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil:

Now that we have taken a closer look at the properties and benefits of both types, we can say the presence or absence of THC compound is the main difference between broad-spectrum CBD oil and full-spectrum CBD oil. The benefits and extraction methods of both categories are almost the same but, the availability of THC draws the fine line between them.

Full-Spectrum and Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil Products:

Smilz produces Full-spectrum CBD products and Broad-spectrum CBD products such as CBD gummies and oil tinctures that are proved to be highly beneficial for chronic pains and inflammation.

  • Tinctures: Smilz CBD full-spectrum oil tinctures are the most effective and fastest way to experience the results. Place the oil drops under your tongue and hold them there for a few seconds. The blood absorbs into the membrane from under the tongue and enters the blood flow by the direct route.
  • CBD Edibles: CBD gummies and CBD capsules after consumption enters the digestive system. Our digestive system breaks down its elements and lets them enter the bloodstream. Although this method is more time taking yet, provides long-lasting results. CBD gummies are easily chewable and come in different flavors. These flavors help you boost your mood and overall wellbeing.

Key conclusions:

All categories possess different properties and compounds. Despite that, all three share the same goal of providing potential health benefits. You can select the most suitable type for yourself based on your symptoms. The one thing to keep in mind before purchasing is that there is no best-for-all. All categories carry some pros and cons.
