What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are oils obtained from plants such as cloves, garlic, peppermint, and so on. Essential oils are simply defined as extracted biochemical compounds that capture the plant's scents and flavors. They are the essence of the plant, thus the name essential oil arises. Essential oils, the ones used in aromatherapy, typically contain 93 percent plant extract and base oils. Aroma oils on the other hand, are diluted forms of essential oils. It often contains just about 2 percent or less of plant extract and base (carrier) oils. The latter (carrier oils) makes it easier for the body to absorb essential oils when you rub them on your skin and they make them less irritating to the skin upon topical application.

The essential oils are compounds derived from some of the following: orange, lemon, roman chamomile, avocado, bergamot, sweet almond, grapeseed, lavender, and the list goes on. These oils are linked to improved health in several ways. Scientists say that essential oils interact with the brain’s limbic system. This system is related to your emotions, memory, innermost thoughts, and personality. Some additional health benefits are highlighted therein. The two major routes of consumption of essential oils are via skin absorption, and through inhaling the scents from essential oils. There are no essential oils meant to be consumed via the oral route.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is an all-natural oil derived from Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica. CBD is the short name for the chemical compound Cannabidiol. The Cannabis plants are used for the legal production of CBD, which is commercially produced and sold without the THC constituent (THC is responsible for "intoxicating highness"). CBD is among the hottest trending products in the health and wellness industry globally. It has several health benefits, but three prominent ones are widely promoted. CBD helps you reduce the onset of muscle soreness, fight anxiety and inflammation.

Due to the higher popularity of CBD oil, many people seem to claim that it has benefits similar to, or better than, essential oils. While there is a measure of truth in that, there are still some differences between CBD and essential oils. The biggest difference between the two is the physiological way they work in the body. CBD does its mechanism employing what scientists technically call the endocannabinoid system or abbreviated as ECS. CBD molecules bind to a set of receptors called Cannabinoid binding receptors (CBRs) that help regulate many of the body’s functions. Once ingested and absorbed, cannabinoids activate the CBRs that give the endocannabinoid system a boost to help regulate sleep, joint function, and stress level.

Tips On How To Blend CBD Oil And Essential Oil

CBD and essential oils are meant to be in holy matrimony, but mixing the two isn't as simple as it may seem. Since CBD oil and essential oils work differently, you might be thinking of mixing the two in the right blend to get the different benefits. It is like you know getting the best of both worlds in one go. We recommend you follow the tips highlighted below on how to do just that.

1. Understand the role of carrier oils and choose the right carrier to use:

Carrier oils, also known as base oils, are an important part of any oil infusion you plan to do. In this case, they help to mix and combine the CBD and essential oil also diluting them appropriately. Coconut oil is an excellent choice that you can use for a good CBD-Essential oil mixture. Carriers with higher fat/cholesterol percentages are (healthy oils) like olive or hemp seed oils aren’t as well suited for this particular task. They won’t do a good job at dissolving the essential oil, and convert it into a form the body can easily metabolize.

2. The mixture ratio should be in the right proportion:

There is some debate as to what the perfect carrier oil to essential oil ratio (including CBD oil) should be. But as a rule of thumb, you should know that you have to add 12 drops of essential oils in about 30 ml of carrier oil. This general dilutional rule should be used when adding oil infusions to food, drinks, bathing water or when preparing some quantity for direct application on the skin.

3. Research more on what CBD to infuse with what essential oils: There are a ton of different kinds of essential oils in the market right now. You need to conduct your own research and learn about which ones have overlapping effects when mixed and consumed.
